Port of San Diego Spruces up Embarcadero Parks for Public Enjoyment

Each weekend this month, you can enjoy stunning waterfront views even more from a special place in Embarcadero Marina Park North. Partake in a game of chess, fly a kite, or read a magazine – all courtesy of the Port of San Diego.

“Bahia del Sol at the Big Bay” is a pilot program created by the Port’s Land Use Planning department to enliven Port parks by creating defined spaces that encourage public use. Beginning Saturday, October 6 and continuing on Saturdays and Sundays throughout October, the Port will provide patio furniture, games including chess and checkers, Frisbees and more in the northwest corner of Embarcadero Marina Park North. Magazines and newspapers will also be provided. In addition, kite flying exhibitions by Kite Flite will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 6 and Saturday, October 20. Drum Circle Performances by Cheo y Los Rumberos will entertain from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 13 and Saturday, October 27 and the public is welcome to show off their musical skills with them.

If Bahia del Sol proves popular with the public, the Port may consider continuing the pilot project at some of its other waterfront parks.

The Port of San Diego manages 16 waterfront parks around San Diego Bay. Many of the parks include children’s playgrounds and amenities such as basketball courts, baseball fields, public fishing piers and launch ramps.
