Street Improvements Result in Reduced Commercial Truck Traffic in Barrio Logan

WHAT:

Press conference to announce the opening of 28th Street traffic ramp and reduction of commercial truck traffic on Cesar Chavez Parkway; community celebration at Perkins Elementary school to celebrate community involvement in this milestone

WHEN:

Friday, July 6th

Press Conference at 11 a.m. with members of the Marine Terminal Community Committee, including CALTRANS, City of San Diego, Port of San Diego and community representatives

Community celebration begins at 3 p.m at Perkins Elementary School

South on I-5, exit at National Avenue; turn right on National Avenue and drive straight past the first traffic signal

South on I-5, exit on Cesar Chavez Parkway. (this will put you on Beardsley St.); continue going straight on Beardsley St. The school is on the corner of Main and Beardsley Sts.

SIGNIFICANCE:

The Port of San Diego and the Barrio Logan community have been working for years to find solutions to the increasing truck traffic through its neighborhood. As a result of the improvements by CALTRANS at 28th St., all commercial truck traffic will now access the freeway from 28th St. and 32nd Street instead of driving down Cesar Chavez Parkway.
