Work on Pepper Park Boat Launch Ramp Suspended During Peak Boating Season

A project to make improvements to the public boat launch ramp at Pepper Park in National City has been suspended to allow the ramp to be open during the peak boating season.  The ramp sees the most use during the spring and summer months.

Construction to replace the existing concrete launch ramp with a new, eight-lane boat launching ramp and two, 10-foot wide boarding floats began in December 2007.  The Army Corps of Engineers permit for the project required that the work be performed during the winter.  The Port of San Diego originally anticipated work to be finished by spring, but unforeseen conditions relating to the ramp’s revetment have caused the project timeline to be extended.

The ramp is currently open and will remain open through Labor Day.  There is a possibility that work on the revetment may occur at this time.  If so, the areas being worked on will be fenced off, but the center portion of the launch ramp will remain open.

The Port of San Diego will resume the launch ramp improvement project in September.  The project also includes slurry sealing and re-striping of the parking lot at Pepper Park.  R.E. Staite Engineering, Inc. is the contractor for the $1.1 million project, which is being co-sponsored by the California Department of Boating and Waterways.  The project is being paid for with state grant funds and Port funds.
