Port of San Diego Harbor Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Traffic Collision

Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department Detectives have arrested the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal traffic collision on January 19, 2022. The collision took place near 5000 North Harbor Drive. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it struck and killed two pedestrians who were crossing the street. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as 71-year-old Jerome Zimmer and 69-year-old Madelyn Zimmer, both of Alberta, Canada. The driver, 35-year-old Kevin Thomer of San Diego, was booked into San Diego County Jail for two counts of 192(c)(1) PC – Vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
