Public Safety
Port Public Safety is responsible for safeguarding waterfront parks and land, maintaining homeland security and collaborating with agency partners to deter crime locally and abroad. Through the Harbor Police Department, the Port provides for the safety of our communities and resources along San Diego Bay and at San Diego International Airport, and is seen as a global leader in maritime and aviation public safety.
The San Diego Harbor Police Department is the law enforcement authority for the Port of San Diego.
Port of San Diego Harbor Police
With approximately 140 sworn officers, the department is prepared to protect and serve the citizens and visitors in the Port's five member cities - Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City, and San Diego. The department also provides police and marine firefighting services on San Diego Bay and is contracted out to the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority to provide police protection at the San Diego International Airport.
Crime Prevention
The Harbor Police Department patrols San Diego Bay and its surrounding tidelands by vehicle, vessel and on foot. Harbor Police officers work hard to ensure that these areas are safe for our residents, workers and visitors. However, the Harbor Police Department also relies on the public to keep an eye out for things that may seem suspicious. The iWatch My Bay Program gives you the ability to report suspicious or unusual activity.
