One commissioner is appointed by each of the city councils of Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach and National City, and three commissioners are appointed by the San Diego City Council. One San Diego position is currently vacant, pending appointment by the San Diego City Council.
The Board establishes policies under which the Port's staff — supervised by the President and Chief Executive Officer — conducts its daily operations.
Ethics Ad Hoc Committee
Purpose: In 2024, the Ethics Ad Hoc Committee will review the District’s Code of Ethics and recommend revisions for consideration by the Board of Port Commissioners. Port Code Section 0.14 was first enacted June 4, 2002, and last amended November 2003.
The Ethics Ad Hoc Committee is a special purpose committee of limited duration formed in accordance with Board of Port Commissioners Policy No. 19 and is not required under the Ralph M. Brown Act to hold public meetings. The Committee does not have the authority to amend the Code of Ethics but can make recommendations to the full Board. The Board of Port Commissioners may amend the Code of Ethics at an open public meeting.
