Motorized Mobility Devices & Pedicabs

The Port of San Diego is holding a public meeting to provide information and obtain feedback regarding proposed amendments to San Diego Unified Port District Code Section 8.07 – Regulation of Motorized Mobility Devices and Pedicabs. The proposed amendments include regulations discussed at the May and July 2023 Board meetings, for motorized mobility devices and motorized pedicabs to only operate on streets and in bike lanes, and to prohibit the operation of motorized mobility devices and motorized pedicabs from operating on sidewalks, pathways, piers, and promenades for the safety of pedestrians. Motorized mobility devices include, but are not limited to:  motorized pedicabs, motorized scooters, electric bikes, hoverboards, motorized boards and skateboards, shared mobility devices (scooters), and other motorized micro-mobility devices. There will be exceptions for ADA mobility devices and guided Segway Tours. “Pedal-Only Pedicabs” (non-motorized pedicabs) will be considered for operations along designated areas off street based on sidewalk width and pedestrian density.

All feedback will be collected and provided to the Board of Port Commissioners. Port staff anticipates presenting the proposed updates to the Board at their meeting on October 10 at 1 p.m. at the Port Administration Building.
