Ernesto “Ernie” Medina serves as Chief Engineer. A dedicated public servant with over 24 years of experience in the engineering field, Medina joined the Port of San Diego in August 2006 as an associate engineer. He was promoted to capital project manager in 2012 and was sworn into his current position in October 2013. Prior to joining the Port, Medina served in various roles with Caltrans, Willdan, and Boyle Engineering. Under his leadership, the Port has successfully delivered over $200 million in capital projects and is now an accredited agency with the American Public Works Association, the first Port in the nation with this distinction. Medina is a registered Civil Engineer, Certified Port Executive, and a Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Developer/Practitioner. He holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from San Diego State University.
