Jeffrey P. Geary

Assistant Chief of Police/Assistant Vice President

Jeff Geary has been with Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department for over 20 years and is currently serving as the Assistant Chief of Police/Assistant Vice President. Before his promotion in May 2022, he oversaw Harbor Police administrative operations, including criminal investigations, internal affairs, homeland security, training, communications, special events, and special teams including the dive team. In addition, he is an instructor for law enforcement vessel and dive operations, marine firefighting, and HazMat/CBRNE response. Assistant Chief Geary’s career with Harbor Police has also included being the commanding officer for patrol operations, police field supervisor and watch commander, dive team supervisor, detective, and field training officer. Moreover, he has worked overseas with the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs in providing training to the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Coast Guard. 

Assistant Chief Geary received the Harbor Police Distinguished Service Medal in 2018 and had previously received the Medal of Valor from the Honolulu Police Department. Assistant Chief Geary holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License which includes an endorsement to operate submarines.
