Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department is Recruiting, Hosting Open House

The Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department is hiring! Whether you are starting your career in law enforcement or making a switch, we encourage you to attend the upcoming open house. Discover more about this unique public safety agency and explore available opportunities.

               6-7 p.m.: Presentation
               7-8 p.m.: Q&A and meet and greet opportunities

WHAT:    The open house will include the following activities:

  • A presentation by the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department and People Services Department
  • Opportunity to network with Harbor Police Officers, Dispatchers, and Community Service Officers
  • Q&A with Harbor Police Officers from several specialized units

The Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department is one of the most specialized law enforcement agencies in the nation and is seen as a global leader in maritime and aviation public safety. Officers are trained to work vehicle and vessel patrol on and around San Diego Bay and at the San Diego International Airport. Officers rotate through these assignments, making it a dynamic work experience.

The Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department is a medium-sized police agency with a variety of specialized teams and assignments. The agency fields a Dive Team, Maritime Tactical Team (SWAT), Explosives Detection K9 Team, and has a full-time investigations unit. Harbor Police Detectives work with the Maritime Task Force, Narcotics Task Force, Joint Terrorism Task Force, and Major Traffickers Task Force.

The Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department offers an exciting work environment, competitive salaries, and excellent benefits. The starting salary for Trainee Officers is $89,124 per year, and ranges from $98,037 to $120,574 per year for Lateral Officers. Upon successful completion of the academy, Trainee Officers receive a pay increase. The Port also provides a comprehensive benefits package, including a pension plan. Starting in January 2024, the Port began covering health care premiums for all employees and their dependents.
